Consider North Arlington near Old Dominion- close enough to East Falls Church or Ballston metros (where you can garage-park for $100ish/month), and you can take old Dominion to Tysons. You don't really want to take 66 to Tysons in the morning - the "reverse commute" really crawls. (I run on trails by 66 and run faster than those cars move.)

You could also do something near Dunn Loring metro - it's an easy commute to Tysons up Gallows or Cedar, and he'd get a metro seat 99% of the time.

Look at Falls Church City and Arlington. Why cross the Amerucan Legion Bridge if you don't have to?

We live in Bethesda off 495. Husband commutes to Reston (25 minutes driving) and I commute to L'Enfant plaza (40 minutes metro). We've been doing it for 4 years and it's not bad. We have a 1 year old but we're right in the middle of where all the schools are, so we're staying put for the near future.

Which metro stops - red or orange line or what? My dh worked on Capitol Hill, and we moved from MD to VA for other reasons. It was nice for him because then he didn't have to transfer at metro center every day.

DH drives t tysons and gets on the beltway at river road. In the morning, the commute isnt so bad -- 20-30 minutes -- but in the evening, it can take up to an hour. If you did that, you'd want to live within easy walking distance to friendship so that your spouse can get to the metro easily.

What's your budget, OP? I agree with a PP that Falls Church might be a better option in terms of being between your two locations.

Traffic around that part of the Beltway is pretty bad. Take a look at the traffic layers on Google Maps at the time of day you'd be commuting. DH travels a similar (longer) route and flexes his schedule to come in early and leave early, and that makes it reasonable.

Falls church city for the good schools and somewhat walkable nature of the place. also near East Falls church metro and maybe you can both metro to work. No, don't live in MD. It is easier to commute to DC from VA if you ask me.

If you live in a part of Bethesda where you get on/off at River Rd traffic is much easier to Tysons Corner. It's the internal TC traffic that is the worst, not the beltway from River to 123.

Depends on what your tolerance for commuting is and also at what time you would be making the commute. Getting to Tysons via the beltway is generally a bear - worse in the afternoon/evening than the morning.

OP here. Forgot to say that our kids are super young at the moment but in the future we would want them to have a good school district.
