I'm 40 now, but I was thinking of ways I almost died in my 20's and younger:
- Drank an enormous "shot" of overproof rum poured by a clueless friend. I was clueless. I passed out after 1 minute, vomited, and had white stool the next day (sign of liver damage). Liver damage was temporary.
- Very bad driving
- Participated in a medical research study. I underwent a routine procedure (bronchoscopy), but I didn't realize that the scientist would enter my lungs via my nasal passages. He was having trouble getting through my nasal passages, and he was VERY motivated to get his sample. He kept on spraying my nasal passages over and over with epinephrine, which can cause fatal heart rhythms in high doses. I finally realized that I was tensing up, and he was able to pass the bronchoscope through. Later that year, a student died in exactly the same situation.
