Again, another useless link that only reports on a rumor which the company then refute. We're planning on using Hardiplank soon, so I am genuinely interested if there are maintenance issues I've not heard of before, but nothing I've seen here seems to have suggested that's the case.

Be careful when pressure washing it, hardiplank can easily get damaged.

vinyl or aluminum siding are both significantly softer than and would buckle much more easily than hardiplank. sure you need to always be careful with power washing it would still take much more pressure to damage hardiplank relative to other types of siding.

OP here- thanks PPs - I am so excited now that I see all this feedback.

We haven't yet started getting quotes, but will be doing so soon.

Did anyone find major damage under their current siding that had to be remedied or other unexpected issues that I should be saving for beyond a normal contingency?

in 2010 when we had the freak summer hurricane/storm, through our insurance we had all our old vinyl siding replaced with hardiplank - it's gorgeous and had many a neighbor stop by to get take pictures. at the time, it was the best ROI - 120% - now don't know but wow, maintenance free (except maybe in 20 years you'll have to re-freshen the color) and the house has a completely new look/charm to it.

proper installation is critical, for ex., do NOT caulk joints between vertical trim ends (end wall), but you MUST caulk joints (with Hardie proprietary caulk) at the joint with vertical trim.

Field cut ends must be sealed with Hardie sealer.

Etc., etc., all this info is readily available but your installer must follow instructions.

We did an addition last year and had the new addition sided in Hardi plank as well as the original house. It made an amazing difference to the house's look. We have had strangers drive by (while we were in the front yard) and yell out their windows how great (and different) the house looks. The front had been sided with the unpainted for several years and the new was the prepainted. All the maintenance we have done is light pressure washing.

I have hardiplank and it's been great. I personally like the look of clapboard homes and I can get that look without the upkeep. I had more issues with my stone home than I did with the hardiplank.

We did it and are very happy with it. We did the prepainted as we didn't want to hire a painter. If I had to do it again, I'd get the primed and then paint as it got banged up with the install (great installers who were careful) and touch-ups don't look at good.

We did it after wasting money trying to have the wood boards replaced, repainted, etc etc. LOVE IT. No maintenance. Our neighbors did it too.

Anybody re-side their house in this? We are considering and trying to detemine qualified contractors, etc.

Our house is 2200 square feet - other considerations we should be thinking of?
