I think it is important to distinguish between juicers, which remove the pulp, and blenders, which do not (and make smoothies, IMO). I have and use both: an Omega masticating juicer, and a Vitamix.

Juicer: The advantage to the juicer is that you can take in a lot more vitamins and minerals because your body doesn't need to process the fiber. Think an entire head of broccoli and bunch of kale for a small glass of intensely healthy juice. The disadvantage to the juicer is that you use a lot more produce to produce one glass of product and that you discard some beneficial fiber.

Blender: The advantages to the blender is ease/speed and use of the fiber. The disadvantage is that the result is much thicker and is less concetrated in nutrients.

If I could only have one, I would probably choose the blender. I use it every day for smoothies.

If you want to go all in, you could always put juice in your smoothie.

As far as which juicer to get, I recommend a masticating juicer, because it slowly presses out the juice and doesn't heat it up and affect the nutrients. I have the 8006 and recommend any of the Omega masticating juicers. Amazon and Overstock usually have good prices but shop around.

I prefer The Cream to The Clear, myself.

A friend gave me a Breville juicer. Sorry to hijack, OP, but just wondering what everyone is juicing (apart from carrots)?

We have a Breville juicer. It works well but hogs a lot of counter space. I use it mainly for making carrot juice.
Vitamix is great for smoothies.
Of course, if one is into cold-pressed juices, the Norwalk juicer is available for $2000!

Blenders will result in chewable juice. I'd go with an actual juicer. Or if you use a blender, strain it afterwards.

We had a kitchen aid blender but upgraded to a Vitamix when we started juicing more. Kitchenaid makes great products, but it just doesn't compare. You will get chunky juice.

Anyone use a kitchen aid blender?
