We went to Nice/Cinque Terre/Milan in late March/early April and the weather was wonderful.

OP here: Many generations ago, our family came from Poland, Belarus & Russia. Russia & Belarus seem too far but maybe Poland . . .

I'm very drawn to the Italy idea. Maybe 4 days in Rome and then hiking in Cinque Terre or something like that.

Or maybe Spain, as DS just started studying Spanish and it would be great to see if she could use it.

I also love the CA ideas but I was in CA twice last year, and neither my mom nor I would be happy driving down or up Route 1.

My two ideas were recommended so I'll second them - drive down CA coast, or drive around places like Charleston, Savannah, some small towns. Another idea is to tie a trip to where your family is originally from - very meaningful esp since you'll be 3 generations.

Charleston SC? You can combine a beach/natural wildlife (by staying part of the time at the coast) and then a history/shopping angle in Charleston itself. Beautiful in late March.

My mother (age 71 and very active), my 12 year-old DD, and I want to take a 7-10 day trip together during DD's spring break in late March. I'd like to make the most of this rare opportunity, while grandmother and granddaughter have this magical relationship. DD loves shopping, hiking, and swimming. While she is not the hugest fan of museums, she's usually willing to do and loves her grandmother so much that she'd do anything with her and be happy.

Paris, Amsterdam, London, NYC, Boston, Mexico, and Arizona are out.

Any ideas?
