I really like our neighborhood, kalorama Sheridan. Free standing houses go from near $4mm to $8mm. It is as close as you can get to downtown (10 minute walk), but still feel exclusive. Grand homes and at that price point you fit in with everyone else. Great neighborhood park, extremely safe and pretty streetscapes.

We looked a bunch in Cleveland park, which is a fantastic neighborhood, but home prices are generally $2mm -$3mm and not as exclusive. It is also not as close to downtown, but it is a great neighborhood.

There are some houses in Georgetown, which some people love. Houses vary from $1mm to over $10mm. They vary in scale and luxury too. I lived there in law school and it is not for me at this point in my life, but it is cute.

Personally I would avoid some of the outer neighborhoods, but there are very small pockets of houses in your price range in forest hills, Cleveland park, spring valley, weley height and mass ave heights.

I'd look in Kalorama or Cleveland Park. They are both close to schools, shops, restaurants, and metro - and beautiful, friendly, good neighborhoods!

I think the point is that it's silly for someone with this type of money, if real, to solicit input on an anonymous message board when real estate brokers would drool over you and spoon feed you information.

Start with Washington Fine Properties and take it from there. Personally I'd start with Chevy Chase, Kalorama and Wesley Heights.

instead of coming on to this forum, and rubbing it into our face that you have $5 million to play around with, why don't you use your gobs of money to hire professionals who cater to the super-rich so you can get your castle?
Seriously. I know their are some high income folks on here, but certainly there are plenty that aren't and wouldn't you get better advice by going and talking to the 1% and leaving the rest of us hoi polloi to wallow in our significantly "lower" lifestyle.

There is a development of newish homes off Foxhall Rd in NW DC that may suit your needs.

I assure you this is "real". Private school and would like shops (supermarket,etc..) to be no more than 10 min away.

H commutes now over an hour but would like to be able to cut it down if possible but is open.

If this is a real question, then the answer is simple. There are very few homes in this area for more than $5M, and the only place you will find them are select areas of NWDC, McLean, Great Falls, Potomac, and Bethesda.

You need to give more information. How long is DH willing to commute? What type of shops/activities do you want to be close by? Private or public?
