At what, 29% interest? That does not make sense unless you plan to never carry a balance.

Why would you even want a Target card? Can’t you just use a Visa or MC there?

Check out creditboards.com. You will find more specific information there regarding why those companies deny people with good credit scores - each company has its own quirks when it comes to issuing credit.

The income you tell them matters. The are required by law to let you provide income you want considered, and also required to check your ability to pay the cc relative to your other debts. Sometimes people put in a low income and get denied.

I do background screenings on all my tenants (60 of them). The report that comes back isn't just a credit score, it's a list of ALL a person's previous financials. If you have a lot of debt it counts against you. It does not matter if your credit score is high.

In this economy I'm sure companies are being more careful about giving out credit cards.

Look at your credit reports; there might be a mistake. You can get an annual free copy from each of the three credit bureaus. www.annualcreditreport.com .

THis happened to me despite very high credit scores. I was trying to get the extra 20% discount from Macy's on a big purchase.

They sent a letter saying it was because we had too much debt -- doesn't make a lot of sense but they must be tightening up the rules.

DH tried to get a Target card a couple weeks ago and he was denied. Now I tried to get another store debit card and I was as well. We just bought a new house and our credit scores are great! 790 and 780.

Is it because we need to develop more of ahistory at the new address? Our new mortgage is significantly lower than what we were qualified for. We pulled the fee credit scores and nothing was out of the ordinary. TIA.
