Op here, thanks for all the inputs first and yes it will be cut from the same slap and no they will not give us any discounts for their convenience. We are decided to have a one piece installed and will accept some minor wall scratches need to be fixed at a later time.

We are expecting a few hours of labor to fix the wall.

Property manager and real estate investor here. I've installed dozens of granite counter top.

Depending on the size of the actual rock/slab of granite you selected, it may have to be cut into two. See, granite is from actual rock...therefore if the rock itself is not the length of the counter space you need it has to be two parts. I upgraded my counter top last spring and it had to be brought in as two parts because my counter top is VERY LONG.

Also, if it's too long it is too difficult to move and it is too heavy. It's not just cost. There are many factors when installing granite.

We have a 120" island in our new kitchen. We had to specify that when asking what our options would be, but most places were willing to let us know. The prices they gave us would specify whether it was available in a 1-piece or 2-piece island.

OP, it is one long piece all from the same slab that will be cut in two, or are they taking pieces from two different slabs and putting them together? If the former, it's not really saving the supplier any money to cut it and I would not expect a price reduction. In the latter case, yes, it should be cheaper.

what everyone said about cost decreasing. However, in terms of beauty I think you will be fine. I had to hunt for the seam in my newly renovated kitchen.

It is not a huge deal. But it is for their convenience. Don't let anyone tell you your kitchen is inferior, you will still pay a lot, just not as much as if it were one piece. Don't pay as much as if it were one piece.

I love when people with less try to detract from those with more. It makes you realize a lot about their tortured soul.

I spent months looking for my slab and a fabricator to work with. My island is just under 11' and 6' wide. I wanted a single slab with no seems.

If this is what you want, find a new fabricator and be prepared to go to the slab yards. It took 8 guys to carry my slab in. So I had to pay for more labor. And I know I was charged a premium because they only had one chance at the cut, if they messed it up, it was all over. In the end, I am thrilled.

Did you pick your granite slabs? If it's long enough don't let them cut it. Tell them you picked that piece for that purpose and paid for that piece.

They are doing to make it cheaper. There are companies out there that can do it in one piece (for more money).

They're not doing it to protect your walls - they're doing it because it is cheaper for them to find two smaller pieces rather than one big piece and one big piece is more likely to crack while being transported. Not uncommon, but don't be deceived that its being done for your benefit.

so, I am in the process of getting new granite countertops for my kitchen. Then I was informed that, the longest piece, which is 115 inches long will be cut into two piece because it's too difficult for deliverly and might scratch up my wall. (2000 sq ft townhouse) The cut will be at the end of the L Shape, it will be glued back together, but it will be noticeable. I really hate to see it cut into two piece.

just want to know how comment is this practice?
