What school is that?

DC went to a special all-school assembly where they learned the difference between "Ivy" and "All the Rest". Bonus points were awarded to 5th graders who learned how to go on DCUM to rag on Whitman's Ivy results.

I will say this: pickup on the first day was awful. Gargantuan SUVs poorly parked and outrageously spaced out--so much so that traffic was gridlocked at the entrances to the school. You newbie parents are going to have to do better!

I could not get out of my parallel parking space at drop off. My Honda Civic was bumper to bumper with a freakin big Suburban in the front and Infinity in the back.

I was mistaken for a nanny at pickup.

My only concern is that DC seems to be struggling in the Hedge Fund Management class. So many of the other children have been trading since they could talk.

All of the things you report are true to some degree. However, there are always going to be a few mean or misguided kids that can make other kids' lives difficult. Also, IME, even if people are really nice and kind, to some degree, having a large income disparity creates some uncomfortable situations. It is neither as bad as depicted, nor as rosy as you depict.

It's been 3 days. Of course it's going well.

You won't really get a feel for the true way the school is until you have been there for a full year and been involved in activites and have got to know some families.

Glad to hear it. Please never read this web site for anything other than entertainment. It's sad to think that anyone might take the things said on here seriously.

DC is new to a Big 3. After reading lots and lots of the negatives on this board, it got us all frightened to death. Too early to tell for sure, but my DC reports lovely kind and caring teachers. A diverse group of wonderful classmates and a peer group that really seemed interesting.

When you read this board - it makes you feel like this is the last thing youll find.

Lesson learned - I think this board is full of people who report the negatives... the happy ones (which is likely most at a big 3) dont come on here to tell you... these are terrific schools with great faculty and wonderful children.

Oh and the parents have been warm and supportive too.
