Always enjoyed Volt--been there about 4-5 times, always for special occasions. Their brunch is a great deal-- three course fixed menu with a variety of choices for each course--for around $30-35/person. High end food and you leave feeling stuffed.

Went to Range once and wasn't overly impressed. Pretty expensive, a few really good dishes and a few decent (but overpriced dishes). Nothing bad, just underwhelmed for the price. Range is massive, so I get the sense the food prices are jacked up to cover the monthly rent.

Yeah, I was highly annoyed by the small plates at Range. I mean, just make most of those entrees and charge a few more bucks instead of getting me to buy 4-5 appetizers at $15-$20 a pop. The food was good though. Looking out into a mall, not so scenic.

volt is spot on. you will feel special there, since the space is smaller and service more attentive. food is fantastic. table 21 was too much food for us, but still enjoyed it. prefer the a la carte menu.

range is great, but because its so huge, we prefer going earlier in the evening (quieter, better service). food is great there but because there are so many small plates, there's always one that is a disappointment. i

Range was uneven, IMO. The good dishes were great, but the bad ones were pretty bad.

I had heard those stories of bad service at Range but I think they must finally have worked on the issue because we've had good to excellent service when we've been there (although admittedly we were eating early).

Table 21 at Volt is fantastic.

Range provided us one of, if not the, worst dining experience in dc. We even followed up with the manager the next day and never heard back. If you read reviews, the consensus is that service is terrible so you end up resenting the meals up very high price.

Never been to volt - we have a gift certificate we got for our wedding and never used it. Family Meal was good, but to me there are plenty of great restaurants in DC there's no need to schlep to Frederick unless you have a specific reason (which we do, yet have pnt used that stupid gift card! Would rather have $300!)

Totally different. Range is more casual in both atmosphere and food style, Volt is more of an event/high end. I like both but it depends what you are looking for.

We enjoyed Range far better. Much more variation in the food (something like 5 kitchens?), and the food seemed more focused on flavor rather than just trying to be fancy and impressive (eg, cucumber foam and stuff like that at Volt). Plus it is a lot closer to us.
