If sibling insists on owning automatic weapons, particularly without offering safety assurance, sibling has to reckon with the consequence that some people won't want to visit.

Source?

And, if true, I don't blame her. You know she discovered Harvey Milk's body, right?

I am not totally anti gun. If I had a relative who was a cop; I'd go but ask about gun safety and how things are stored. But guns plural? And assault weapons?
You'd need to talk to your relative about this to express your concerns and find out details. If he poo-pooed your concerns or is the type who would bring out the guns to show the kids, I wouldn't go.

If you are vehemently anti-gun, that's your reason not to go. Others may find this reason ridiculous, but you are entitled to your beliefs, as much as your brother is entitled to collect firearms. Freedom is a beautiful thing.

I would find a way to ask about the gun safety issues. If the guns are safely locked away I would go to the events. If they aren't I'd think about it and tell my sibling why I was uncomfortable.

OP here. No gun safety classes. Not sure if they will be stored unloaded or not.

I agree. Is he taking a gun safety class? Will they be locked up with ammo stored (locked) separately?

I would, my brother did the same, he took up a new hobby and spent a lot of time leanring aobu thtem, training with them and educating his fmaily about them.

educate yourself as well on how they work, teach your kids, it was curiousity that killed the cat not education............

If your adult sibling recently purchased guns, some of which were assault weapons, and you were vehemently anti-gun, would you continue to go to their house for family events? In general you think your sibling is responsible, but they have no gun experience until now, much less expertise. Everyone has small kids. A couple have teens.

Why or why not?
