Parent teacher conferences are for detailed discussions. Just call the teacher.

We don't have a separate curriculum night, and the stuff online tends to be very general. I do think at least 50% of it is to see the teacher, find out contact info. etc. I didn't even introduce myself this year because there were 20+ parents there, so trying to have extended conversations and there wasn't really time.

I think the most important part of BTSN is getting a feel for the teachers personality and an understanding of how their classroom functions. Other than a quick hello and introduction, you should make an appointment to have a longer conversation.

OK, serious question- global overview of school. All that is online too, or found out previously. So why go to BTS night? Is it face time? Do you look more involved if you go or can you skip? If you know the info and can't even meet the teacher (I would at least want to meet the teacher), then why go? I'm genuinely curious. I have to go to one for pre-school. They give us the handbook. It's online. ugh.

That is what we usually have on BTS the aforementioned things in your list
math curriculum - you make an appointment with your DC'S teacher or, as in our school, we sometimes have PTA meetings in which staff/administration come to talk about these things
BTS is not the time for the parents of 20+ to discuss their specific kid -- just not enough time

What age is this? I would expect to talk to the teacher on a night like this too. I guess I don't know what happens at an older back to school night.

OP, back to school night is not the time for convo's with the teacher. Make a time to meet if you need to talk about YOUR child specifically. It's a fast night with little time. It's just so you can see what they will do in the classroom. That is it. Get over it. Is this your first child in school? Get used to many more years of this.

We got a lot of "busy" work in our classroom, leaving no time for questions, time to meet other parents, time to meet the teacher.
