It's unprofessional and awkward to not spread the word at work. You can announce or ask several people to let others know.

What do you mean by announce it? I would think it was weird to let your friends, family, work to find out by just seeing you and finally confirming you are pregnant (not fat) when the belly is very obvious around, what, 6-8 mos. I don't think it's weird to not announce it on social media.

I'm 22 weeks with #2, its been a rocky pregnancy (6weeks in the hospital) so family of corse knows and close friends who brought my husband and toddler meals but I haven't made any kind of Facebook announcement. Im a SAHM somi dont have the work issue but preschool started this week and I'm clearly showing so now those families know but I think its going to be a few more weeks before we say/ do anything. I bought a cute big brother shirt for my son on etsy and plan to have some photos taken for our Christmas card that ill likely post on FB

I like to announce, and then maintain a low profile during the pregnancy. Meaning I don't blab about the pregnancy day in and day out, don't constantly update Facebook about it, only post 1-2 pictures during the pregnancy, etc. This seems like the best of both worlds- I acknowledge it so people aren't "WTF?" when I suddenly have a baby out of nowhere, but I'm also not annoying people for 9 months with LOOK HOW SPECIAL I AMMMMM!!! BAYBEEEEE.

No - I know a lot of women at the office who didn't announce.

I think you might define friend more broadly than I do.

Yes, if you would hope this person partakes in some sort of celebration of life (a.k.a baby shower) or their life will be greatly impacted by you giving birth ( I.e at work going on maternity leave). As someone mentioned it is a huge faux pax to ever ask. I don't care if it looks like the person is about to give birth, I still won't ask. So it really becomes the elephant in the room, gee the person looks pregnant but they aren't saying anything and so it becomes weird if this is either a good friend or co-worker.

Now when you announce is a different story. Typically people wait at least 12-13 weeks up to 5-6 months .

Very odd post!

I had 4 miscarriages prior to my successful pregnancy so I was very paranoid about losing it. I waited as long as possible before telling anyone who wasn't a very close friend. I even waited until 13 weeks to tell my parents because I didn't want to cause them distress if I lost it. So you never really know why ppl might not make a big announcement.

That's what I did both times. I didn't see the point of announcing it. I figured the pregnancy would announce itself when ready.
