OP here. There's no room for it. The storage container I chose is too big and it takes up the entire lunchbox.

It's fine. As long as everything is labeled and the kid knows which bag/thermos is hers, I say go for it.

PS- this is FCPS, not MCPS.

OP here. She has two lunchboxes because I ordered a PlanetBox and when it arrived, I realized how big and heavy it is, so I got her a cheap thermos lunch box and bento box. Then, I belatedly realized there is no room for a drink in the thermos bag. I'm just trying to use everything at my disposal so I don't waste a purchase, but I guess it doesn't work out for her, at least not until she gets more into a routine (she forgot to take out the drink and place it with her lunch).

So the only person it affects is your child bc she has to find her lunchbox and separate drink in the bin among 25 other bags. Personally I think it is not a big deal.

Make sure her name is very clearly displayed on it and it shouldn't be an issue.

Could you attach the water bottle to the bag with a carabiner? I doubt any teacher would be annoyed, I'd be more worried about it getting lost or forgotten

Just send the teacher a little note in your child's folder to ask her -- or shoot her a quick email. She won't mind since it's clear you're trying to make her job easier.

OP again- it's the same deal with snack- it goes into a separate tub so the drink (which they encourage you to bring on) has to be separate, I guess, because I doubt anyone sends in a second lunchbox.

My daughter's teacher has kids put their lunchboxes in a big tub to be redistributed at the proper time. Today I sent in a lunch bag that had a pocket for her water bottle, but I just realized that her second lunchbox doesn't have room for a water bottle. Assuming the thermos is labeled with her name, would it annoy you to have a drink that was separate from the lunchbox or is it ok? I know it's probably a trivial thing to worry about, but I don't know if this is the practice year-round or if it's only for the start of school while kids get acclimated and I feel like it's a silly thing to email the teacher about.
