I understand your unwillingness to apply again. However, not being a good fit IS a real reason to be let go, not an egregious reason such as fraud or theft, but a reason nonetheless. Now, most (decent) employers would give you a chance to improve, maybe put you on a PIP or something like that, but they don't have to. Sorry this happened.
The only thing is, two weeks ago I had my 60 day review and there was no mention of poor performance or anything so being told I wasn't a good fit came out of left field. It would've been nice if I was told I needed to improve my performance.

Apply and see if they will hire you, then look for another job while working there. Better chances of finding a job while employed than unemployed

Well which was it? Were you terminated for cause? Did you get severance? Was there an overall reduction?
They said I wasn't a good fit for the position, but then turned around and told me to go home and apply for another one. No severance pay.

If you were fired from your job, but HR told you that you can apply for other positions within that company would you still consider that being fired? I'm asking this for when I apply for other jobs (I refuse to apply back at the company I was fired from), I'm wondering if I should say I was fired or just say that I was laid off?
