Brookside Gardens and Wheaton Regional Park (right next to each other) are great. Both are free and fun. Brookside Gardens is under construction on one side, but it's still pretty. Wheaton Regional Park has an amazing play area and a carousel and train to ride.
There's a farmer's market and craft market in downtown Silver Spring on Saturday morning. It's fun to walk around the area. I'm not sure how long the market is open -- maybe something like 9-1 or 2?

I am meeting up this weekend with a 7 year old girl, 11 year old boy who live near Silver Spring and need an idea for an activity to do with them for a few hours. I live in Arlington so not sure what is nearby that they might enjoy?
