Do not worry. The timed tests are there to help the kids, not to weed them out.

Thank you all, I feel a bit better now. I am not so concerned about DS reciting the full tables, but mostly about random questions. He can skip-count and calculate the whole table based on the previous numbers, but when asked for a specific fact (like 6x7), it takes him a while to answer (since he needs to start from the beginning of the corresponding table). Somebody mentioned something about timed tests, and that got me worried.

Teach skip counting by 3, 4...

I didn't think my son knew multiplication, so I bought the Kumon Multiplication workbook at B&N. He may not be able to recite the multiplication tables, but he can easily solve the problems in the workbook.

Same situation with my child! But, we were told at the Archer orientation that they should know addition & subtraction well and will learn multiplication at school. He gets multiplication, but wants to calculate and not memorize the facts so he goes slower.

In the same boat. I figure that my DC will learn it when it when needed. And...no fear...our 3rd aap didn't even begin testing on it until late in the fall.
