Unique is hit or miss and it depends on what you are looking for. We scored a vintage Lego set and 2 vintage Playmobil sets recenetly, and they were each under 5 bucks. Other times I walk away with nothing. The key is to go frequently.

I second the idea of consignment sales. There are some great ones around. Best is to go first thing in the morning (line up before the doors open) or go for the 1/2 price sale at the end for good deals. Look on the our-kids site for a list of sales.

I have been shopping there for years and feel the quality has gone really downhill of late.

So true about the quality in steep decline. That AND the relatively high prices of late! Come on! Example: I was looking for onesies. The cheapest one I could find was .99 and that was a one-off- most infant onesies were marked $2.00 or higher. I went to TJ Maxx and for about $10, I got a three pack of Carter's onesies and individual ones on clearance for .50 each.

Unique's prices are anything but reasonable. I'd rather score new clearance items anywhere else (Kohls, TJ Maxx, Target) for far less.

I noticed the same thing. My shopping there has greatly reduced. The have gotten outrageous with their pricing.

I was the one to post about Unique but have to agree with you both. I hadn't been in ages and went a few weeks back and was shocked by the kids clothing prices. With their new tagging system, they wanted $8 for a very used Janie and Jack polo shirt. Funny, I've bought them brand new at the store for $8. Their book selection was also very picked over as well. I think the store is total hit or miss but I was just really surprised at how much it's changed recently. Previously, I scored tons of boutiquey clothes on the cheap.

I go to the big consignment sales in northern virginia that usually take place in the spring and fall. I've gotten tons of great stuff at the cfc mops sale in ashburn and the one in leesburg. The prices and quality seem better than regular thrift stores.

Try yard sales. They are generally Saturday mornings, but check Craigslist for exact times and locations. I get most of my DCs clothes there and they are generally very nice stuff. You have to look around obviously, but if you are willing to spend the morning on it you can save a ton.

Unique Thrift is a good one but you have to sort through a lot of crap to get to the good stuff. Monday's is 25% off day so it's best to stay away- the place is a mad house.

Use search. There have been a couple of threads this summer with good resources and the information has not changed.

I know in the past I have donated some fairly nice clothing (some designer) to Goodwill, etc. and assume others do the same. Well, I am now looking to cut costs on clothing for my dc's and wondering if there are any thrift stores that are known to carry nice clothing items. Thanks.
