5-10 minutes to drive from 4 corners to forest glen? I used to commute from white oak to forest glen, and it took more than 5-10 minutes. -Add about 10 minutes to overall drive, walk through garage, etc.

I drive from about two miles north of Four Corners down 16th as far as P Street. It takes me about 40 minutes in the morning, 30-35 minutes coming home.

I used to live in Arlington, and from Route 50 at Pershing to the same office took 20-25 minutes.

I'm thinking you could drive in about an hour or a little less each way if you flexed your schedule earlier than normal rush hour and depending on your exact starting and end points. Of course, there are lots of opportunities to get screwed up in terms of traffic along the way.

That's a long commute, whether you drive or metro, but not that much different than your commute now it sounds like. Your short hours help, and if your partner has a better set-up than this one, that would help too.

How does/does daycare factor in?

FWIW, it helps that we're on a 35-hr week, so my hours are 8-4, 9-5, whenever I feel like coming in) rather than the typical 8.5-9 hour day. So my total "out of house" time is similar to many who live closer.

I live in Four Corners and commute from Forest Glen to Union Station. The drive to FG is pretty easy, though the intersection of Georgia and Forest Glen Road gets congested. I would, however, really hesitate to take on a Metro commute that required a transfer, especially at Metro Center. It's just such a mad house during rush hour and each line breaks down enough that I'd hate to be dependent on two different lines running smoothly to get to and from work. That said, we love living in Four Corners, and it'll probably be better than your current commute.

16th Street usually moves well - from 4 corners to farragut north is about 30 minutes on a typical day (but sometimes can be much longer.) Metro including parking takes me about 35. Figure another 10-15 minutes to cross the bridge against rush hour traffic, probably about the same on metro.

PP here, sorry I misunderstood, I thought you meant from Four Corners VA area (Wolf Trap/Vienna). I don't know Maryland as much (funny, since I work there). Hopefully others will chime in.

If you wished to take Metro, would you drive to a metro and park? On the Rosslyn side are you close to the metro?

It's only 15 miles driving but unless you're new to this area (perhaps you are) you are aware that 15 miles does not equal the travel time of 15 miles elsewhere. I commute from Arlington to Bethesda at around 20 miles and it takes me an hour in the AM and easily 1:15-1:30 in the PM, and that's been in the summer leaving 7AM and 430PM. Obviously Four Corners-to-Rosslyn is different (no crossing the water) but you might be surprised at how actually NOT different it is.

I would take the metro if I personally could, but it adds to much time to metro in and transfer and then I have a 10 min walk on the Bethesda end. I'd suggest the metro for you but driving to and parking at a metro is another animal compared to walking or Metrobussing to a metro station.

Drive? Metro? More interested in time savings, not cost savings.
