Np. I had posted earlier about newborn hearing. My LO still does not react to sound at 6 weeks...startles at loud noises but does not at all ever turn head to sound..lpassed the newborn hearing (after failing left ear first time) at the hospital. I am waiting for 10 weeks for appointment to redo the test or something similar. You may want to be vigilant too. I think my infant has good bit of hearing loss as my friends say by 6 weeks LO should react to human voices ((

Sounds like a newborn. We called this the "tropical fish" stage, since it was like having a pet that was a lot of work but no payback in terms of interaction.

She should start smiling soon, but nothing you've said suggests any problems. She doesn't need you to do anything to encourage her brain development other than feeding her, holding her, and talking/singing to her.

I remember thinking this around 5-6 weeks. Now I have a crawling, climbing, and almost walking 9 month old and I long for the days when he just slept, pooped, and ate.

You're almost there, OP. You could try a black and white board book or dangling a toy in front of her. Any of the baby toys with bright, distinct colors and patterns.

Another two-three weeks will make a big difference.

Your LO is doing exactly what she should be doing. Just keep getting her tummy time and interacting w/ her and she'll start doing more in the next few weeks. My DD started smiling around 7 weeks, but was pretty much doing what yours is doing until that point.

My son started smiling at 6 weeks. I remember being so concerned that he didn't smile right at 4 weeks...but I don't know what I was so worried about. My son has always been in the normal to slightly later range of development (but still normal!). I don't know why I felt like to be "normal" he would need to do everything early. I think a lot of first time moms feel that way.

Your 6-week-old sounds totally normal. OP, are you familiar with the usual developmental milestones? The CDC has all those things you mentioned listed for a 2-month-old, so your baby seems fine!

Just keep talking to her, making noises, making faces, etc. Hopefully she's getting more from it than you realize. You can always talk with your doctor if you're concerned.

Oh FTMs you don't need any toys, you are your child's favorite toy. Take her in her stroller for a walk and talk to her even though she is not listening.

DS is 8 months and 6 weeks feels like forever ago, but I think this was right around the time he showed interest in shadows, changing light, and toys that made noise. He liked when we played with the blinds or we put a toy right next to him and he would just stare at it.
