Try world bank. Some positions don't have much travel, and you can switch to one that does when you are ready.

Consider the foreign service? Lots of folks with legal backgrounds find their way in.

Op here. I did big law for a few years and am now at a federal agency. No experience in international development, but wondering if there is a way to transition in laterally since starting at an entry level position is not an option.

Confused, are you big law or a fed? Your title says big law but post says fed? I only ask because the relative pay cuts would be very different, and also because you may have different avenues to explore the work you are interested in depending on which it is.

Would love to work in humanitarian aid or refugee assistance; helping with education and health for kids on the developing world would be fantastic too. This is my dream job but I never made the jump. Currently a federal attorney doing routine work and have yet to see opportunities in this sector in govt. I have 3 young kids do travel and working for an NGO would likely not work because I can't afford a large pay cut.

I want to set an example for my kids about pursuing your passion and helping others. Any advice on how I can segway into the field? I'm sure DC of all places has lots of opportunities but I'm surprised at how few I've come across. Any links or leads for attorneys would be great.
