Eh, my FIL said he thought the name we picked was "stupid." And he didn't understand why the baby wasn't being named for him.

I was annoyed at the time (and annoyed that DH told me), but it didn't influence us in any way.

Wait, that's all she said? Telling one person you think a name is serious and would prefer something more modern or less predictable is a pretty mild thing.

Elizabeth Grace is a perfectly nice name, but some people prefer other names and that's fine too. Saying that you find a name "serious" is hardly trashing it, it's just saying she prefers something different.

Be honest, if your SIL had a baby and named them something not your style you wouldn't say anything to anyone?

OP here, I would never say anything to her or uninvited her to thanksgiving - I just wish I could. We are naming DD Elizabeth Grace, I don't think names should be some kind of secrect, and my mother likes to monogram things it would be rude to tell my mom & not my MIL the name when they both asked.

Let it go OP. SIL is not a nice person, and it sounds like this incident has re-affirmed this observation.

Background: My SIL is generally a bitch, we pretty much avoid her and her husband due to her behavior.
We are expecting our second child this winter and just picked a name. We have started telling people the name when they ask about my pregnancy/ baby's gender etc. we didn't make any kind of announcement or production of it BUT I found out from other family members my SIL has an issue with the name we chose (its something normal, spelled normally) and is bad mouthing it. I guess I shouldn't be surprised but I just want to call her and tell her 1) I think she's being a total bitch and 2) since I'm hosting thanksgiving she's uninvited.

I dont think im looking for solutions, I mean its our kid and we get to name them what we want & she gets to feel however she likes. Thanks for letting me vent.
