I watched it with 10 and 11yr old girls. It was fine.

thank you! I did decide that we wouldn't watch it with them.

I wouldnt watch it with a 6 and 9 year old. Just dont think they would get it, and like ohters have said, some of the scenes are a bit much for that age group. FWIW, I'm pretty liberal in this department and if it was just the 9 year old I might, but not the 6 year old. Totally over the head of a 6 year old.

Would likely be boring for 6 and 9 year olds - agree with PPs that there are inappropriate sex scenes for youngsters. Good for 13 and up.

I don't think there are explicit sex scenes. It would be fine. My sister is super uptight and she watched it when her five year old kid was in the room. The kid watched the soccer scenes and nothing else.

Would they really "get" it? I'm Indian so to me and many other Asians, the themes resonated -- love, doing what you want/feel is right vs. family obligation/tradition -- culminating in the dad allowing his D to have chances that he didn't. How many 6 and 9 yr olds would get that -- they would just think the soccer was cool.

I would have said 12 personally, I'd go with the guidelines. It's a great movie with a lot of good material for thought and discussion, I'd hate to see younger kids put off it and then not want to watch it again when older.

I don't think there's anything scary or overly emotional, but IIRC there are sexual/relationship scenes that are inappropriate. Don't want to give anything away if you haven't seem it.

my kids are 6 and 9. We have had Bend it like Beckham from Netflix for MONTHS, and haven't gotten around to seeing it. I need to mail it back tomorrow because there is something else I've promised to get. I got it because I'd been intereseted in seeing it myself. But now I'm wondering if we can watch it with the kids. I'm not so afraid of relationship stuff, or other somewhat grown-up themes. But my kids really don't like scary or emotionally upsetting stuff.
Anyone care to offer an opinion? Is it mostly funny/inspirational? Or is it really dramatic? (My kids love soccer, so I thought they might like it)
