I called today because we are out of town. Even though everyone I know has the postcard I was told "the school can not give this info out on the phone." They post it on the school door on Friday, so this seems a lilttle crazy. Being that it is 2013, couldn't we go to a website?

Parents only care if there's a teacher they hope to avoid. And most parents won't bother to complain if their kid ends up in the bad teacher's class...they'll either suffer in silence, or try to work with the teacher during the year. If you have a bad teacher at your school, you'd understand.

And some of us care about class assignment for other reasons....such as whether or not any of your kid's friends are in the same class. If you have a painfully shy kid, you'd understand.

I remember my parents occasionally worrying about this kind of thing. So while times have certainly changed, I don't think that this particular thing is anything new.

I can't recall if my parents cared about this stuff, but I sure recall that every kid with an older sibling cared. When I was in school, kids always talked about who our older siblings had, and tried to get the scoop on who was nice, mean, easy, strict, etc. For all I know, our parents were talking about it too, but when I was a kid, our parents sent us off to play, and barely spoke to or saw us until meal times. They could have been talking about anything, and I would not have known.

I agree.

And my daughter's ES sent out postcards stating to which teacher they were assigned!

yes, I'm the OP and I'm a little embarrassed to have posted it. I just wanted to know! Not that I would have "shoved people's faces in it" (how or why would I even do that?) or done anything about it. Just want to know! Since then I learned that one school will mail postcards Tuesday, and the other will post them this weekend. When I know when I'll find out, I cease thinking about it.

I agree that there is nothing one can do about it. However, it still makes an enormous difference who the teacher is, and what the configuration of the class is. I guess my own (work/school) life is just not full enough, so I am over-interested in the fate of my children.

Our school sent out a message telling us not to call the office because they won't tell anyone the assignment over the phone "for security reasons", yet they will post them on the oustide wall of the school and leave it there all weekend. Ha! Why don't they just say "we won't tell you over the phone because it's our policy." If they were worried about security they wouldn't post it for days for the whole world to see! (And I'm not saying I'm worried about the security of it. I am just laughing at their phone message.)

My school sends out out a postcard next week. Except we are going on vacation next week. Oh well. Guess I will find out when we get back?

Our school does not send out teacher assignments. We find out on the 23rd for the open house. I thought that was a county wide thing. It's honestly not worth fretting about (or comparing or shoving in someones face).

Haven't gotten the assignment for HGC teacher. But other 2 kids have gotten assignments from their home elementary school. Does anyone know if the HGC sends out this info? Don't know any of the other kids/families at the new school yet, so no one to ask. Thanks.

i keep checking this board to see a thread started by someone obsessing about what teacher their child will get for next year. Just like I keep checking the mailbox for some word! Am I the only one?
