out of current listings...i bet the manse at 15 dupont circle would sell if offered 18 in cash.

I think both Halcyon House and Evermay were north of $18M.

in this kind of price range, i would require a property to have real history and character.

It's not $8M+, but I'd take it...

Here's another one I really liked when it was on the market:

I saw this one in Potomac Maryland. There are no photos on the net since the owner bought the lot and built on it and never sold. It looks like a jewel when you drive by it:

Or I'd buy one of the 20s/30s homes in Upper NW for the $5M range:

I like those annapolis homes but maybe I should have clarified that I am thinking of dream homes where you can be near DC for commuting purposes and great schools. The Annapolis area has poor schools but I guess if you are buying a 18 million house you could afford private.

The second Annapolis home is in a good district. I mean, it's the same conundrum for a good portion of this area, right -- worrying about schools. Most people who are spending this kind of cash in any city are probably using private.

To be close-in with good schools -- OK. I love custom, newish homes like this. It doesn't have the glitz factor of the places you posted but looks warm and inviting despite its large space.

If I had a ton of money - this is more what I'd be looking for. Or a rowhouse in G-town or Cap Hill. I don't really want a house that resembles a castle.

Ok so everyone hates high end homes calling them gaudy blah blah blah

I assume it is the mickey simpson fans or rambler dwellers

Here are some of my favorites but I guess I am gaudy
