I did the same as PP but put my freelance work at the top, since I've been doing it off and on (in between and during regular jobs) for more than a decade (and am doing it FT currently). But another reason is that I have a few well-known (in my field, at least) clients, so I want people to see those first. If that was not the case, I might put freelance work at the end.

I just list my jobs chronologically starting with my current and at the bottom I have my freelance (2000-2013) listed with all the clients I work/ed with. if you have had gaps in your full-time jobs maybe put specific freelance experience in there so you have a nice, tidy timeline. you could also give that freelance a name like "Jane Doe's Editing Services" or something.
