I don't do online shopping so if I can't buy it directly from the store, I give cash or a gift card. And sometimes I just give cash or a gift card anyway because I figure that the couple can put it towards their honeymoon or however else they want to spend it. Their choice.

I'm actually working on ordering a wedding gift for my SIL this afternoon. We're having one of the readings from her wedding hand calligraphied (by someone on etsy), and then we'll mat and frame it. After our wedding, it was exactly what I wanted, and I ended up doing it for my husband for our first anniversary, but I would have loved it if someone else had done it. (Also, I think it will end up costing less than $75, so we may buy something functional off the registry too.)

What about a gift cert for a weekend away at a nice b&b? This is especially nice if they aren't going on a honeymoon.

Sadly, her registry doesn't have anything big on it, most of the items are about $40-50. I honestly think she's planning on returning most of the gifts

What about something big off her registry, that she will think of you every time she sees it - like a kitchenaid mixer?

If you know that she really wants and can use cash, give her cash. You can include a special personal note in the card, too.

Could you do a combo of cash and your idea of a photo? I realize you don't have a good image, but you could ask her to send you one of her favorite photos that she's never printed and do something with it that way.

So, I'm okay with giving cash (but we can't afford 2500). Is there anything in addition that you got that you have found that you plan on keeping forever?

Just curious, what was your most treasured wedding present? DH and I have been wracking our brains trying to figure something out. She has a registry, but from speaking with her, we know she doesn't really care about much of that stuff. Originally I was thinking of some canvas prints of some of their fave photos, or make something artsy from those photos, but I'm finding that the photos I have aren't of the best quality. She got us a really amazing set of knives, that we plan on keeping forever. We do think of her every time we use them, but my DH made it a big deal how hopeful he was to get those knives. She doesn't have any similar inclination with what she's registered for. I know she really just wants cash, which I'm not opposed to giving, but I still want to give something meaningful in addition.
