Co Co. Sala is so much fun: http://www.cocosala.com/

If you have time, then you can go to the E Street Cinema for a movie or to Woolly Mammoth for a play!

OP here. Thanks for all the suggestions! One restaurant that I would like to comment on is Restaurant Eve. We want there a couple of years back for my birthday. I was very excited to try it. But left disappointed. We felt that the food was very bland.

One other question: is Minibar still as amazing as it used to be? You don't hear much about it anymore. My husband has always wanted to try that place too. I think I'm still leaning towards Volt but need to figure out the logistics of getting there and back. Don't think we can stay over and don't want to drink and drive. Any recs for a good car service? You only turn 50 once!

I am the PP who prefers Volt to Citronelle and we had a great time at Little Serrow for my birthday this year - but it wasn't a milestone one and it was just 2 of us. I think the whole waiting in line on a sidewalk, no parties larger than 4, not knowing what time you'll actually eat would detract from the "specialness" the poster is looking for.

Yeah, 4 of us got in line at 5:00 waited in line on the sidewalk at Little Serow close to an hour to celebrate a milestone birthday. When we got to the front of the line they told us they weren't seating parties of 4 but they could accommodate us at two tables but not necessarily at the same time and the wait for the first table would be an hour if not more. Shame on you Johnny Monis. No one's food is this good unless you're a hipster with time to burn and an iPhone to keep you amused. Then again, I suppose we could spring for Komi and dispense with the sidewalk bullshit.

Plume downtown at the Jefferson. Tasting menu/wine pairing is out of this world & the hotel is so nice if you choose to stay!

Don Pollo, Bethesda. Make sure you smuggle in a thermos of Clos du Bois.

I have been to Inn at Little Washington, Volt, and Citronelle. Volt was much better than Citronelle because you can see your food and we weren't the youngest people there (we're 35 and do a nice fixed price meal for our wedding anniversary each year). I thought Citronelle was trying too hard. If its just the 2 of you, I'd made the trip to Inn at Little Washington. We stayed at a B&B down the street and walked over. Get the cheese course as 1 of your desserts! Fabulous experience.

The only problem with the Inn at Little Washington is that it's 1 1/2 hours away. I love that place and would recommend it. if money isn't an option, they have a house that can accommodate your guests overnight. It's spectacular! The food is amazing and the ambiance can't be beat!

We were not impressed with the tasting menu at Volt. And I love Brian Voltagio so I had high hopes. Restaurant Eve is much better. Heck I thought Citronelle was better.

What about L'Auberge Chez Francois in McLean?

Minibar, if you're just having a couple people.

Im looking for recommendations for a special dinner for my husband's 50th. We have dined at Komi, City Zen and other high end restaurants in the city. I'm thinking something like the chef's table at Volt or the Inn at Little Washington. I would like something a little different. So hoping for other suggestions that I may be missing. Thanks!
