Thanks for the feedback. The group therapy is a really big financial commitment there.

I would check out Renee Hackney in Falls Church. I've heard very good things about her groups

We just finished the kindergarten prep group and I thought it was a good experience. While my son was in his group there was a parent group running concurrently. Like one of the posters said, what you learn requires work outside of the group if you want to reinforce what was learned. I learned a lot of good things and it's improved my parenting skills and my relationship with my son.

Have to say - we had a great experience with them. It took 2 months longer than expected to form the group, but it was tremendously helpful. One thing to keep in mind is that none of these groups can give a quick fix - they teach short term tools and long term strategies, and it requires work and practice outside of group. Don't expect to go and have your child be "fixed' by the time it's done. If you practice, you'll see improvement. We also had a great group of parents in the associated parents-group, but I've heard that's not always the case.

Just do a search on this forum and you will find more people with bad experiences than good.

For anxiety--my son did both individual therapy and one group. For him, the group was not helpful. But the one on one therapy there was very good and very helpful.

Stay away from In Step. They take forever to put together a group, are non-responsive and have poor customer service. AND! they don't accept insurance, you have to pay out of pocket. Go with someone else.

We are considering group therapy for my DD9 there.
