When my husband does this it's because he's dialed into the office around 4 am to work on something and doesn't want to break his groove. He grabs an early lunch, then heads in by noon to participate in the obligatory office politicking.

Same as pp. i do this sometimes, to avoid the afternoon rush hour and be able to pick up my kids a half hour earlier but still put the same work hours on the clock. I can also put something in the oven (no intense chopping or anything, but putting a dish in the oven or boiling a pot of water) while i work in the afternoon, allowing me to serve dinner that much earlier.

The main benefit to that schedule would to driving back home in non-rush hour traffic. In my situation, that would save me an extra 45 minutes per day in traffic.

I'm looking at my schedule and I can work in the office for 1/2 day and telecommute for 1/2 day. Is there any point to such an arrangement? It seems like it would defeat the entire point of telecommuting.
