A lot of that (what's more expensive than allowances) will depend on your own choices for things like cabinets, lighting fixtures, appliances, etc., so if you "pre-shop" some of that you may get an idea of what you will want might cost. You can compare that to the allowances.

Kitchen cabinets, appliances, architect fees and change orders (most that we requested, a few that the contractor requested) were the largest off-contract items for our renovation. Most of the other items have been listed by PPs.

18:38 here ... We're about 80% through a major addition and partial renovation.

My guess is that the change orders on the construction contract will total perhaps 3-5% of the contract amount.

The contract, of course, does not include architect's fees (for design and construction supervision); building out closets and any custom cabinets (there's a small allowance in the contract for that); window treatments; appliances or hardware that cost more than the contract allowances (which in our case are fairly generous and realistic in many cases); some additional drainage work needed; some additional retaining wall construction in the yard beyond the contract allowance, etc., etc.

Overall, including the architect's fees (largest single item of those), probably 15% on top of the contract price per se, close to 80-100k in the end.

But that's not the contract -- the contract bids were within 2-3% of our architect's estimate (they do very detailed specs), and the change orders themselves are fairly minor, maybe $15-20k, if that (?).

The learning experience was figuring out how much of the cost (a lot) is not part of the construction contract.

Anticipated 10% more, but is is more like 8%. But we spent a lot of time pricing things before setting the budget.

Close to $100k. I honestly lost count.

I'm wondering how close the contract price was to what you spent in the end.
