Not OP, but you assume incorrectly, ignoramus. Cape Cods all have full bathrooms on the main floor, because they have bedrooms there also.

Gross. It may bother your guests.

We do as well, and I have to say it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I originally had this as a deal breaker, but now I'm okay with it. And we live in a colonial, not a Cape Cod.

We're in a rowhouse w/o a bathroom on the 1st floor. As others said, it would be nice occasionally (i.e. birthday parties, guests over), but it doesn't bother me too much.

Many smaller rowhouses have this configuration. A bathroom would have to be carved out of valuable living or storage space. Would be nice to have a spot to wash my hands when I get home, but I just do it in the kitchen sink. Not a big deal.

We don't have one. While I wish we did, it is not a deal breaker. When we have guests, I clear away the toothbrushes etc and try to make it look like a powder room.

There are 2 upstairs and 1 in the basement, but none on the main floor.
There's also no room to build one

Not really. Even most older, smaller homes have a powder room on the first floor. I don't want guests traipsing upstairs to use the toilet or having to use a bathroom in the basement.

Ha, *lived* in one I mean! Loved too, I suppose!

My family happily lives in such a house. Someday, we may take the time/expense to add a powder room, but right now we're living our lives. It discounted the sales price and works for me.

My house is like this. It's annoying every now and then. But only once in 6 years has it been an actual problem. That was when we had an elderly guest who had trouble with stairs and needed to use restroom. If you have close friends or Family with mobility issues and they often, then I would consider it a Dealbreaker. Otherwise, I think it's fine.
