I would suggest going into the school with the contract. I always found that the receptionists at my MCPS elementary were much nicer and helpful to people in person than they were to people they didn't know on the phone.

I enrolled in our new school with the contract. We were moving in before school started, but I don't think the school cared in the least.
Good luck.

OP... thank you all for your feedback and suggestions. It is good to know that others just took their contract to the office and enrolled their kids without paying tuition. I am going to give the school a call on Monday. My son is starting kindergarten and I want his transition to be as smooth as possible. Thank you all.

When we were in a similar situation a few years ago, we just took out contract to the district offices and enrolled the kids. It was a pretty straightforward process, and we didn't pay tuition.

You need two pieces of proof of address-so you'd need a utility bill, mortgage statement/copy of lease, MVA change of address card....

Are you sure? I think the ratified contract is enough. Really, all you need to prove residency is a bill in your name with the address of the home in the school's assignment district. You could always just switch your cell phone bill to that address a little early and use that as proof. I think this is something you should call the school and ask to get a clear answer.

Call the school and ask them.

It looks to me like you may have to fill out Form 335-73 Determination of Residency and Tuition Status, which I can't find on line, so I don't know what is in it.

We are in need of advice on enrollment given that we won't close until September 19th. Will the ratified contract be enough to enroll our little guy into Kidnergarten with MCPS or will I need to temporarily lease an apartment within the same school district for one month? BTW- our little guy also has an IEP and I will need to discuss the implementation with his new MCPS school... Any thoughts, advice, cautions?

If it was me I would give the new address. They will never find out and even if they did it wouldn't be a big deal. The school system is not going to be bothered with pro-rating your tuition for less than a month.

You can start school once you have a ratified contract. Call the school.

OP Thank you very much for the response, I had no idea I could pay tuition for him to attend the school for a month until we close on our home. Thank you!
