+1

The only "food" that contains soy products is processed food from the middle aisles of the grocery store.

Stop buying shit in boxes, bags, packets and wrappers.

I agree with the cook-from-scratch PP. Give up the processed foods.

Buy meat, fish, dairy, produce, and grains. (And nuts if you can have 'em.) None of those have soy. Cook 'em with olive oil. Try to limit eating out. If you're cooking from scratch at home, you can not worry so much about the few meals out.

I am also confused as to why so many people assume it is a healthier option than some traditional ingredients. It is hard to avoid it completely these days, it seems. How did this happen? Do the soy distributors have great lobbyists? Is it really cheaper than other ingredients? Very curious.

This. We drop like flies from early breast cancer in my family, and my doctor has advised us to at least limit our soy consumption because of the speculation that phyto-estrogens could make matters worse.

It's also a fairly common allergen.

Sooooo, what about in Asia where soy (and rice for that matter) is a large part of their diet? They actually have a longer life expectancy as us.

I'm not saying that massive amounts of soy are good for you, but I think that it's also getting a bad rap when there can be health benefits from it if eaten in moderation.

Nothing is wrong with soybeans, really, unless you are allergic. It's the processed soy that is an issue.
Some believe it causes cancer, others believe the photo estrogens are bad for you and various other issues. In little amounts it would probably be no big deal, but it is pervasive in processed foods, so it adds up.

It's as if there is NO way to get away from it in this country. I can try to make as much as I can from scratch but even seemingly-basic ingredients contain one or more of the above. I realize it is because the gov't is in bed with the manufacturers, but I am furious this is allowed.

Don't even start me on GMOs.
