Subject: Urgent please: Ashburn: Schools, townhouse or SFH and commute to Herndon?
People on DCUM do not like Ashburn. I live there and I like it. It is very suburban and family oriented. It's all planned communities out this way.
You should look in Broadlands. The schools are very nice and so are the town homes and the overall community.
The commute to Herndon is one of the better ones around here, ESP if you can time your travel to avoid rush hour.

If your budget isn't working in Broadlands, there are a lot of nice townhomes in and around Leesburg, which isn't too much further west.

I live in Ashburn and commute to Herndon daily, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 40 minutes in rush hour. On weekends, 15 minutes. Traffic is horrible in this area, other than that, it is a nice area, family friendly and good schools. You can see the schools ratings online, they are pretty much comparable

Bummer about those properties! Maybe something else will pop up.
Ashburn to Herndon is not a bad commute. There are even some back roads that are possible for commuting.

Thanks for your comments. I had actually shortlisted several TH and SFH in Reston/Herndon/Fairfax areas but unfortunately several of those have approved applications and are no longer in the market
I'm trying to keep my options open. Need to get some additional properties lined in those areas and that is why we are considering Ashburn as well. If someone can name a few good schools based on firsthand experience/knowledge, that would certainly help!

Hopefully the c-d folks are more helpful - this board has a huge anti-ashburn bias. I have lots of friends who have moved out that direction, and while I don't live there myself, I do understand the appeal.

You can find a TH in your price range there pretty easily. The commute will be ok since you don't have too far to go, but the roads are very congested. Lots of families live there.

I think in Ashburn, you should be able to get a TH in that budget. I know you from c-d - what happened to the Reston/Herndon/Chantilly areas? Not liking what you were seeing there for your budget?

No clue. My guess is your budget is too low. I've never been that far out so I don't know or sure, but I'd guess your budget is more in line with a 2 bedroom condo

We are moving from out of state and considering Ashburn as one of the possible options to find a comparatively newer/bigger townhouse or SFH in Ashburn area. Here are some things that matter to us in terms of priority:
1. Great Elementary Schools and eventually middle schools.
2. Commute to Herndon area for work. How much time? How bad is the traffic?
3. Townhouse or SFH within the range of $1750-$2300. We need atleast 3 bedrooms and 2000+ sq ft if possible.
We were primarily researching the FCPS and do not know much about Loudon County Schools.
Please suggest which schools are good in the Ashburn area so we can try to identify some townhouses and SFH accordingly.
Sorry for the short notice but we will be in the area this weekend and are trying to shortlist and visit some places in Ashburn by Monday if possible.
