We just use Comcast-but only pay for Internet service. It's cheaper then the bundled services.

My DH received the apple TV for a birthday present. It's a pretty cool little device, and easy to set up and operate/navigate. I'm into documentaries, and there's plenty to watch on hulu and netflix. Not sure we would have purchased it, but it was a nice bday present.

Get a Bluray DVD player that has the Hulu, Netflix, etc apps on it.

Was going to get Roku but will get a Google Dongel instead. We just bought a new TV which has access to Netflix and Hulu already so this will just give us easy Amazon Prime access.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to watch sports (golf and football, mainly) without cable? That's the only thing holding us back from cutting ties with cable.

Roku is pretty cheap and easy too if you buy the cheapest one. Is the chromecast out already?

Apple TV is what we have, what I like about it is that I can buy or rent movies from iTunes if what I want to watch is not on Netflix. Plus we have a Mac and iPads so it all works together.

You still have to pay for the subscriptions for Netflix, etc.

To the OP, I'll point out that Netflix has lost some of its subscriptions to competitors. It is, however, starting to produce original series. House of Cards (with Kevin Spacey) and Orange is the New Black (created by Jenji Kohan) are the first two. It's sort of like Netflix is following the premium Pay TV model by coming up with original content. I don't see its competitors doing that yet.

I love the Roku box as well.

The interface for Apple TV is beautiful, but I think Roku has more to offer.

Hi,

We are in the dark ages on home entertainment and would like to modernize economically. Between all the options for tv, streaming movies, etc, what would you recommend that is satisfying and economical?

In case it's helpful, we have two kids under 5, rarely watch regular tv or news, but love movies and soccer and history and science programs.
