No bus to my DCPS! Bus, metro or walking.

Good to know. Our bus is often late enough in the afternoon that I head out to the school to go and get the kids.

No, we specifically moved in walking distance of elementary school. Our retired neighbors will meet the kids and make sure they get into the house after school. .

10:58 again. Re: is it too long, well, I don't know. For us the only other option was not going to the specialty program. I would say give it a whirl on day 2.

For that matter is there a such thing as a bus ride that is too long or is that another myth to generate working parent guilt? lol.

For kindergarten is was not terribly long, as our child went to the neighborhood school. In third grade, when he went to a specialty program, it was ridiculous. But, we all survived.

Have you heard back to confirm you have a spot?

Yes, we went to sign up for it back in May or early June on the day they did walk-in registration at our school's BASELP. We were first in line and definitely have a spot. Thank goodness because the aftercare options otherwise are pretty depressing in our area.

My kindergartener rode the bus every day last year. I was nervous in the beginning, but she loved it and made so many friends that we never would have met otherwise. Her bus ride was 30 minutes.

We put them on the bus, but we were able to arrange our work schedules so someone could meet the bus in the afternoon.

You betcha! In fact, I have.

The bus was a bit of a thrill for the brand new kindergartener, and also, a HUGE break for me logistically. I feel that the school bus was the best thing since sliced bread.

Fortunately for us, the bus stop was right by where aftercare was.

If your child is in public school, did you put them on the school bus? Did you make arrangements for drop off at a daycare center or hire someone to be an afterschool care provider?
