I'm a retained executive recruiter OP (and middle-aged). Your plan about what you're going to wear sounds fine. A nice gold chain or pearls would be nice as well as post earrings. Avoid too much makeup ...but some makeup is fine.

Agree with an earlier poster to bring a portfolio with some of your materials. Make sure to download some information on the company as well as to research the backgrounds of the people you're meeting with. Additionally, review some of the recent press about the organization.

Good luck and let us know how it goes! What field by the way?

skip the perfume/fragrance too please and if you must, wear it so lightly that someone will need to invade your personal space to smell it. Don't go nuts with the jewelry, stud earrings and watch'll do. Closed toe heels, shouldn't be said but you'd be suprised.

Agree, you dont need glasses. Well fitting suit, not too tight, and I dont think it matters whether it is a shirt or a blouse as long as it isn't too low cut or flashy. I actually think with a black suit and sensible heels (and not too much makeup!!!) you can wear a shirt with a little panache - you're trying to show them you're serious and responsible, but you dont need to look old and dowdy. A little bit of style, added conservatively to an otherwise sensible outfit, is very appealing. And I work in the financial services industry, a stodgy one if ever there was!

Dress as you normally would, a black skirt suit is fine, fitting but not form fitting, knee length skirt. I would go with a shirt under it instead of a blouse. Black short heels, a low ponytail comes across better than a high one.

I would skip a ponytail altogether. I don't think it looks very professional. When you said hair pulled back, I assumed you meant in a bun.

Thanks guys! Yes I was definitely thinking low bun. I do need glasses but typically wear contacts.

Instead of worrying about what you wear, bring examples of your work. Dig up any articles, bulletins, or grants you may have written. Print out any publications on projects you were involved in to serve as talking points. Make sure you have a nice portfolio to put it all in, even if it's fake leather, and write down questions you have for them. Being prepared and well-spoken will be what they remember the most.

I agree with this except that I think you're right to be thinking about what you'll wear.

I'm headed to an interview soon for a very high profile position. Those I am interviewing with are in their 60's, while I am late 20's. I would say I look my age, probably 28-34 range. I'm qualified for the position, but need to convince them that I have what it takes to be a member of their executive team and don't want them to judge me on looks alone. What should I wear to come across as serious, dedicated, and intelligent? I was thinking black skirt suit with hose and a blouse, with short heels, hair pulled back, and maybe glasses??
