My DH went by Robby until his early teens, then transitioned to Rob, which is how everyone, even relatives, now refers to him. I shouldn't think you'd have any trouble going from Bobby to Rob or Robert unless your son himself prefers Bobby. Heck, various members of my family have changed their names entirely and we all manage to remember most of the time.

Yes. Using the nickname"Bobby" will not turn him into a girl.

OP. I should note that that my baby's name is Robert. I posted in this forum because all the baby name threads are here. I'm just wondering about the nickname.
He was named after a much loved relative that went by Bobby through adulthood until he died in his 50s. My son is starting to take on characteristics of this relative that make the nickname seem so fitting, even though I never planned on calling him Bobby. I'm just wondering if it's still a nickname that a boy can pull off these days.

My dad is Bob, was called Bobby as a kid, and now in a retirement crisis, has transitioned to Robert. Nice to have options if you like the name!

Not juvenile, just dated. Very Brady Bunch.

I had a friend Robert who went by Rob with one group of friends and Bob with another.
Bobby is a great name! And so underused these days. Go for it.

My 72 year old dad was called "Bobby" by my grandmother until she died several years ago.
Mom called him Bob.
Second wife goes with Robert.

You're not *stuck* as anything. Maybe your family still calls you by your nickname when you go home for Thanksgiving, but there's nothing stopping you from filling out applications and signing things with your full name.

OP. I just really love Bobby! Has anyone ever been a Bobby and transitioned back to Robert or stuck with Bobby as an adult?

Oops. Apparently it's Bobbi Brown and Bobbie from the Today Show.

For Robert. Is it too juvenile? I'm not a fan of Bob, and is Bob inevitable as he gets older? I would prefer Robert or maybe even Rob as he gets older. Also, is it becoming too feminine? As in Bobby Brown and that girl Bobby (Bobbi?) from the Today Show?
