I've been interviewing tons of people recently. And I couldn't tell you if any of the women wore hose or not. Wouldn't even occur to me to care.

Or wear a pant suit. No hose needed.
I don't own skirt suits - I have tattoos so they aren't possible in interviews. But it's cooler in the summer than hose!

Wear hose. I just interviewed, first interview in a pants suit, second interview didn't have another nice suit so opted for a nice suit jacket, black skirt, and hose. It sucked but it was the right thing to do. I arrived early and got coffee, in the coffee shop there was a woman wearing hose. I asked her if she was interviewing because I was surprised to find someone else wearing hose in DC in the summer. She laughed and said no, but she thinks hose are professional and she feels more put together in hose, she has a job in a pretty formal environment seeing clients etc. Surprised because she was kind of young (I would say early 30s).

Anyway, I think it's always better to err on the side of caution. I also interviewed at a nonprofit/university setting, pretty casual, but they have the job, I do not.

I think it's silly to dress for an interview based on the culture of a company. THEY have the job you don't. You are making a lot of assumptions and basically acting as if you have the job. You don't.

and it's really not good advice to always wear a suit to every interview. it really depends on the job, the company, etc. know your audience.

i work in a casual environment, and if someone turned up for an interview in a suit and hose that would be a minus for them (would make people here think they are a bad fit for the office, culture-wise).

I wore a skirt and shirt, carried the suitjacket with me. Packed hose in my purse Got on Metro. Stopped at Starbucks right by the office (bought a bottle of water so not to look like a jerk or a homeless person), and put the hose on in the Starbucks bathroom.

No runs in the hose and I didn't melt walking to and from the train. Just give yourself a few extra minutes for your pitstop. Any coffee or sandwich shop would work.

I did something similar 5 years ago in July, when it was 90+ degrees. Agree with PPs that you should wear hose if you are wearing a suit (and you should be wearing a suit).

I did the same thing. I interviewed at a company 3 years ago. During the interview they asked me to come back for a second interview and the woman said, "It's hot. I appreciate the effort with the suit, but it's completely unnecessary next time." I got the job.

Yes, if you are interviewing with anyone over 50, you need to wear hose

Anonymous wrote:I have an interview at a very casual company. They pride themselves on offering a super flexible and casual environment. Flex schedules, anything goes in terms of attire (khakis, polos, jeans, etc). Women who work there will typically wear a skirt with bare legs and sandals or capris with wedge sandals.
Do I need to wear a suit for an interview? I don't own one. Would dress pants and a nice blouse/sweater be okay?

Always wear a suit to an interview.

Take a taxi to the front door and yank the hose off the minute you leave.

It sucks, but yes, I would wear hose. Really. Just this once, do it.

Again, I know it sucks. I think of hose as the modern day girdle -- uncomfortble, outdated, unncessary. But if you're going in for an interview and you want the job, if you are wearing a skirt you shouldn't have bare legs.

Yes, this is another "what should I wear" thread... I'm interviewing for a mid-level management job at a nonprofit, and I *know* I'm supposed to wear a suit (even though I *hate* wearing a suit!) so I'll wear a suit... but, do I have to wear hose?? Since it's the height of summer in swampy DC?? I can't even remember the last time I wore hose (and I've been working in the nonprofit world for the past 15 years)...
