They are staying in Arlington. Thanks for the idea for Serendipity. I thought of Comet Ping Pong, but it's far. But those are the kind of ideas for brunch, not necessarily fancy food, but a place that is fun for kids and serves brunch.

Unless the resturant is chuck e cheese, pizza hut or mcdonalds, I agree kids are just not as into resturants.

i love dim sum but most 8 and 10 yr olds I know do not. where do you live OP? original pancake house is always packed with families, and i think they do up a "birthday pancake."

What in particular makes Jakes good for a kid's brunch? Looked at website and it looks like a regular brunch menu and not anything special relating to kids. There was a "kids corner" listed on the website but no info on that page.

Not sure if you are in this area, but you could do brunch at Eggspectation in Silver Spring and then play in the fountain outside (kids can play in their swimming suits). Eggspectation isn't very fancy or exciting, but it's kid-friendly and easy (and you probably don't need a reservation!).
