Children of father's 2nd wife refer to me as their SIL and my childten as their niece and nephews. I refer to them as children of my father's second wife and my children address them as miss or mrs. They are not my family and I want as little to do with them as possible.

That's not what this thread is about.

All of us "steps" refer to one another as sister/brother. My step-mother introduces me as her daughter and my dad introduces his step-daughters as his daughters. It bugs my mom still (35 years later), but they are a part of my family.

My son refers to his half siblings as "sister."

I have "half" siblings, but they are my brothers and sisters. To hell with that "half" business. I'm 22 years older than the youngest.

DUH...if they share a parent they are not STEP by definition, they are half-brothers/sisters. So why would you call them step?

Have steps - refer to them as step sisters and step brother - parents married when I was heading to college. There are 10 of us combined so perhaps that's why - plus we have 2 brothers with the same first name...confusing to be sure. I could see calling them brothers and sisters though depending on the ages when the families joined etc.

brother and sister, not steps.

I have an older half brother and sister. We are all just brother and sister even though they're full siblings. My mil always wants to call them my half siblings even though there is literally no one else in my family who defines it that way

I have a much younger half-brother and tend to refer to him that way when I'm talking about him to friends. We didn't grow up together (I was a teen when he was born), so that feels more natural. However, to my kids he's just Uncle Joe.

If they share the same father, they are "half siblings", not "step siblings."

I've referred to all siblings (natural, adopted, and step) as sister or brother. I love having a huge family.

those who are step siblings or parents of step siblings - do they refer to each other as brother and sister or step-brother, half-brother? These would be kids that share the same father, not unrelated kids.
