OP here. Thanks for the advice and explanations. After I posted, I did find a map of the place, which along with the A-I complex name explanation, made things much clearer to me. We just booked a place in the Georgetown building. Looking forward to it! Btw, I booked through the Wyndham website, which allowed me to do a long weekend vs a full week. Thanks again!

We did a non-beachfront condo rental through Airbnb, and it was fantastic. Quiet and cute, with easy access to the beach (even though we weren't oceanfront.)

Something to consider if you have small children: the beach itself at Bethany (at least in Sea Colony) has a huge drop-off, so it's difficult if not impossible to play in the surf. We didn't get near the ocean with our one-year-old. We stuck to the pools and parks.

There are great seafood restaurants near the boardwalk. We didn't leave Bethany.

Sea Colony is mostly weekly rentals. We found a house back in the tennis area through a family on Craig's List. Good luck!

Try resortquestde.com. You would be able to look at all the units in each of the highrises. Our family really likes it because it has a private beach, they have 5 or 6 pools facing the ocean and it's super family friendly. We like Island house because it's at the southern most end and to me just seems less crowded than being in the middle of it all. Bethany also has a sweet little boardwalk with a bunch of retail shops, restaurants, bike rentals and a cute mini golf.
As for restaurants, there's Blue Coast (expensive, but a good date place), Matt's Fish Camp, Lupo di Mare, Bethany Blues and other kid friendly. All are really good choices in Bethany. Rehobeth has many nice restaurants as well, but it's about 10-12 miles north.
South of Bethany is Fenwick Island and the Ocean City where there are a ton of minigolf/amusements/boardwalk etc

you may have a hard time getting a long weekend at Sea Colony - most rent from saturday to saturday so a weekend would ruin 2 weeks of rentals.

The 9 named buildings named from A (annapolis) to I (Island) are the oceanfront highrises. All units have ocean view. Annapolis and Brandywine also have 'garden view' units that are on the ocean - which is a good reason to skip the lower floors in the high rises in those buildings, because the garden units are right in front. Anything else at SC is not oceanfront. the buildings are more or less the same but with different bedroom numbers. The later letters were built later, so they might be marginally nicer, but there have been plenty of renovations in the northern buildings. Each shares a pool with 1 other building except Edgewater, the one in the middle, which has its own and also a lobby, exercise room and indoor pool. Depending when you go you might want to check if all the pools are open, if that matters to you.

Bethany is a nice old fashioned beach town. Plenty of restaurants and basic retail, and , a low key boardwalk with a few t-shirt shops. For rides and the like, you need to go to Rehoboth or OC - but beware that Funland (kiddie amusements in Rehoboth) and many other things close on Labor Day. HTH

I am looking to do a long weekend at the beach sometime soon after Labor Day. Husband would really like an oceanfront view, and that seems harder to come by in Rehoboth, so I'm looking at Bethany. I see lots of recommendations for Sea Colony here, and that's what I'm leaning toward. But I am so overwhelmed with the number of complexes! Can someone point me toward a site that describes the different complexes in detail? Or even just a a map? The only things I find when I google it are the reservation websites. What's the difference between Georgetown House, Cheaspeake House, Farragut, Edgewater etc?

Also, is there anything (restaurants, retail, etc) nearby? Or do you have to drive toward Rehoboth for that stuff?

Not very familiar with the Delaware beaches, so any advice would be appreciated. We are a family of four (3.5 yo and 1.5 yo).
