I've had at least 4 or 5 and the vast majority were no more painful than a pap smear. Take some ibuprofen beforehand and you'll be fine. The procedure only takes about a minute, if that.

11:03 back. Am I the only one who gets vasovagal reactions from this? This is the worst part of it for me. If I could just have the procedure, that would be one thing but the vasovagal reaction afterwards is what drives me nuts. I hate it. I get it at other various times in my life (low blood pressure, hitting my funny bone, if stressed or very tired or dehydrated, if I have bad menstrual cramps, if I am exercising a super-lot, etc.) and I hate hate hate hate haaaaaaaaate it!!!!

I had this done! It was painful but nothing that a little swearing under my breath didn't help. Honestly, the cervical exams during my pregnancy were worse. I took 2 Advil an hour beforehand. It felt like a pinching feeling. She took 2 samples. Afterwards, it only took a few minutes to feel normal again and I went to the mall for some shopping. Take a pad with you because you might have some spotting. Good luck! It really wasn't that bad.

I had an endocervical biopsy. I'm not sure it's comparable, but the doctor and nurse were up front that it was going to be painful. I took two Advil ahead of time AND the doctor gave me a shot of novocaine. The shot pinched, but only for a few seconds, which was shorter than the biopsy. All I could feel was some movement when she took the cell samples.

I've had two endometrial biopsies, and they both felt like a bad menstrual cramp. My doctor said to take two Advil about an hour before the procedure. The "cramping" doesn't last long--less than two minutes in my case. Afterward I just took the rest of the day off and did something nice for myself. Good luck, OP--you can do this.

Don't worry, that's all my office would do for me too. But do take that. I didn't the first time and thought, "I'll be fine." Boy, was I wrong. It did help when I had to have it done a second time and I sure as heck took it that time. I could tell the difference.

PS I have had the full gamut of infertility related tests and treatments, too, and this was, along with the HSG, was among the more painful for me.

I have had one before and I found it pretty painful. I tend to get vasovagal reflexes/reactions after anything is messed around with in that area, and, sure enough, I did. I felt dizzy, nauseated, alternating hot and sweaty and then cold and sweaty, had to stay lying on the table until this passed. Definitely take the painkiller ahead of time (that will help). I did not take valium but I don't care for valium anyway; I feel like it makes me feel drunk, and not in a good way.

10:30 Thank you for the response. I might have to ask about the valium to relax me before the biopsy. I asked if my husband can be in the room and was told that he definitely could be so that makes me feel a lot better about this. So nice to have someone that is willing to be there to hold my hand.

Yes, it can be quite painful, but it might not be at all. I've had the full gamut of infertility related tests. They always say you'll experience some "discomfort and cramping." Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing which ones will be awful for you and which ones will be nothing. Everyone reacts differently to different tests. If you are concerned about pain, you may want to ensure that the doctor applies an effective numbing agent before the biopsy (this may be standard practice). You may also want to ask about getting a Valium just to relax beforehand, it makes "entry" easier.

10:08 While I am scared of the results and the procedure I do want to get it over with. If the results are bad I will be taking care of whatever they tell me needs to be done. I just really want to know if it hurts. I'm also scared that the results will be bad and what they will end up needing to do to fix the issue. I think it's normal for me to be scared of the unknown.

OP, you're using the potential pain as an excuse to not find out the results. It's just anxiety. It's better to find out sooner than later.

Has anyone ever had an endometrial biopsy? My gynecologist wants to do one asap and I'm concerned that it's really going to hurt. She is talking about inserting a straw into my cervix and sucking out cells. Sounds painful to me. I'm I overly worried about nothing? Maybe it won't hurt as much as it sounds like it will. I'm scared in the first place that she wants to do a biopsy. I wish the asap appointment wasn't a month away but apparently that's the soonest they could get me in while I sit on pins and needles waiting to find out if something is wrong.
