Very cool. I hate running. Hate it, hate it, hate it. But I have walked 29 miles in a weekend, so yay me!

Congrats, OP.

Good for you! (I can't remember the last time I even exercised. Shame on me.)

Congrats! That's wonderful that you've improved your fitness so much to get to that point. The 5k this fall sounds like a great idea. Races have so much adrenaline, it'll really get you pumped up. (Take it slow, though, and follow a plan like the couch-to-5k--you don't want to get sidelined by an injury!)

I started running 8 years ago, and couldn't even make it half a mile without walking. I remember the point on my route that I used to run out of steam. 2 years later, I trained for a marathon, and would shout a silent hurray! for myself every time I passed that half-mile mark. Good luck, OP. I hope you find as much joy in running as I do.

Sign up for the race -- it'll be your motivation to keep going.

Unlike me, where I get to running 10 or 20 mins... then go for months without exercising, and have to start all over again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Congrats OP!

I started running last winter after not doing any exercise other than yoga for years. It was hard at first but so empowering. Sign up for a 5k. It was a great motivator for me this spring.

Couch to 5k. You can do it. You just have to keep moving forward. Good luck.

Running has always been hard for me, even though I feel like I'm in pretty good shape. It's definitely a mental thing for me because I find it boring. I used the couch to five k program and I liked it a lot.

I know, I know, 10 minutes is pathetic. But the last time I ran 10 full minutes without stopping was maybe 10 years ago - possibly more. It's a silly little thing, and probably wimpy to a lot of people, but I'm proud of myself!

I've been working out for 6 months or so on the elliptical (with interval resistance) and walking on the treadmill (with an incline), but running has always been intimidating to me. The other day I thought "fuck it, let me just try running" even if I last 30 seconds. And I ran 5 minutes. Today 10. Would it be presumptuous to sign up for a 5k in the Fall?
