OP check out threads on Sarasota for more helpful advice. We were in the area in early January last year and people were wearing down coats on the beach at the beginning of the week, by Wednesday we were in our swimsuits but we had driven further south by then to Marco/Naples.
Myakka River State Park, Marie Selby Botanical Garden, Mote Aquarium, Ringling Museum, Ford and Edison Estates, the Everglades, nature centers and zoos, a warm mineral spring in North Port, shopping and dining, dolphin tours are some things you could try.

So it's not going to be warm and there's nothing to do? huh? That wasn't a helpful response.

We've been invited to join friends at a house they are staying at on Anna Maria Island (Holmes Beach I think) in February. Will it be warm? I there enough to do for the kids? Ours are 2 and 5.
