I end up on my back, too, almost nightly. I do, however, have pillows set up to be propped up a bit.
I also find it comfortable to have a squishy pillow next to me to 'hug' when I am on my side. For some reason, it makes it more comfortable. Same goes for a pillow between the knees. I'm not a fan of the body pillow - too hot!!!

Good luck!

I am also due in Nov. and was having the same problem. I bought myself a Snoogle Pillow on Amazon! If you don't already have one I would highly recommend it! Very comfortable and even helps when you are just sitting around during the day.

I wedge myself in with all sorts of pregnancy pillows and still wake up flat on my back - every single day...through pregnancies now. So, my advice is, do your best, but don't drive yourself nuts!

I slept on my stomach till 30 weeks with my 1st, 14weeks with my 2nd and still stomach sleeping, my OB said its only an issue if you wake up feeling light headed or short of breath - then shift to the left side.

I'm 35 weeks pregnant with twins and still sleeping on my back. My OB says as long as I am comfortable it's perfectly fine.

OP here - ok thanks ladies - I had read some of those studies about bad outcomes for women who slept back or right side, so was trying to be more virtuous this pregnancy

That said - 14:43 - are you volunteering your DH to my cause? It could be crowded!

you can sleep on your back completely safely if you just stick a small pillow or towel or even a corner of the blanket under one hip to put your back at an angle. Got that tip from one of those OB nurse guides.

While left side is ideal for blood flow to placenta, right side is much safer than on your back at this point. My OB told me that if I found myself on my back to simply roll to one side and not to stress about it too much. I agree with the PPs about wedging pillows behind you so you can't roll too much.

I slept on my back until I gave birth (with the complete support of my midwives). Do what works for you. You have enough to worry about at this point to waste brain space worrying about which side you are sleeping on.

I'm the same way. I am a back sleeper, but at 25 weeks, that's not possible. I tried my left side, but it just doesn't work for me. So, I sleep on my right side propped up with pillows. My first was sunny side up, and I do wonder if that's the reason.

I'm due in November and sleep on right and left -- whatever works.

You really don't have to force yourself to sleep on your left. It's not necessary. There are women who sleep on their stomachs until late into pregnancy. Absent some other problem, it's more important that you get sleep, period. Do whatever works for you.

Hi ladies - expecting my second in November - am already huge. I literally can't fall asleep on my left side - I try at bed time, when I get up to pee, when I wake up for water, but after 30 mins , I flip back to my right side and fall right to sleep only to wake up in the same position I fell asleep in. I know left side is better - anyone switch their natural sleep position? I recall with my first pregnancy, I would fall asleep on my right, but after 28 weeks or so I would wake up every hour with hip pain and flip over to the other side and then would flip back and forth all night. I am not having hip pain (yet) and can NOT get comfortable anywhere other than my ride side. I've tried pillows, wedges, body pillows etc.
