I agree with everything above. I'm sure you know this, but as to teaching, the privates have much more flexibility to hire than do the public schools or community colleges. I'm overqualified for just about every job I apply for but i could not teach in Fairfax County schools because I don't have the proper teaching credentials. But some privates would pick me in a heartbeat. Just a thought.

I almost started a tutoring business in our home but my husband was adamant that he didn't want the chaos every afternoon through evening. good point. it really is the only quiet time we have as a family.

Before I finished reading your post OP, I was thinking "start with tutoring," and then I saw the PP above me said that too.

I would be a math tutor if I had your résumé! They make a ton per hour, sixty to ninety dollars. You could tutor when your dh isn't working

start putting out feelers for tutoring to first get back in the game. Either private or with the school. FOr private, advertise on local mom listservs etc. Going rate is about $30 per hour. My mom is a math teacher and she contacted local school and they call her all the time. SHe tutors kids that are sick (long term) and can not go to school. the guidance department coordinates.

high school math teachers would be in demand as well for substitute teaching. they could teach the class the actual lesson rather than just a worksheet day. Once you get back into the swing you could really make some good side money using your teaching experience.

I want to work!

Money would be great and my brain is melting!

I graduated in software engineering, i'm pretty good with C# and SQL, but I haven't done the data access layer which of course is the most important part.

Before becoming a mommy I was a high school calc teacher.

I haven't worked since son was born (4 + yrs ago) b/c he is special needs(adhd, spectrumy) but now he is flying right.
Much better behavior and on his way to catching up w/ his peers in all areas.

I'm thinking of becoming a public school teacher again b/c I would have same or at least similar schedule to son.
They always need math so I was thinking I could start by teaching math and maybe they could open a class where I could teach SQL or C#.

I would LOVE to teach at a community college. That's what dh does part time, but I don't have a masters and still have student loans. ugh.

opinions?
