My boss used to feed the most aggressive eater of her two (a pug) in the walk in pantry with the door closed. She wasn't allowed out until the other dog ( a Pomerania/setter mix) was done.

We have a pointer and a chihuahua mix. We feed them at the same time out of different bowls. We have been very clear about who is assigned to what bowl and we stand there while they eat. They are fed twice a day, at the same times each day, and believe me, they finish their food promptly.

We control their feeding times because we need to control elimination times due to our work schedules. Plus, the more predictable the schedule, the easier it is to enforce the rules.

I have a 50 lb dog and a 10 lb dog. They eat the same food out of the same bowl and it's not a problem, but both of them are grazers.

We separate our two dogs for feeding. It's not that hard. One goes out on the deck, weather permitting, or into the office. The other eats in the kitchen. If we didn't do this, the one dog would scarf down her food and take the other one's food too, and the other one would let her. Maybe if they were only dogs they would "graze," but they've learned pretty quickly that mealtime is mealtime and they should eat while they have the chance. They both eat all of their food within 5-10 min.

We feed the big dog in his crate because he isn't terribly interested in eating and the little dogs will steal his food. They all eat the same food Nature Variety Instinct line. They all do great on it! We don't free feed. I can't determine who had eaten what and we have a dog with hypoglycemica issues

Our Yorkie will ask for her dry food by standing by the cabinet, as we only keep our big dog's food in the food bowl. She'll graze off the big dog's food, but there's a certain behavior she'll do that tells me she wants her own dry food. They both eat the same canned food in the mornings, but his (the big dog) is a much larger portion.

They eat the same brand of dry, but her's is specialized and his is for larger breeds (a big mixed hound). Our Yorkie has put up with him going on 3 years now, so she has had experience in getting what she wants.

How do you handle feeding? Is there a food that is good for both? My 15 pound cavalier only wants the 65 pound retriever's food, even if I put the same food in both bowls! It is hard to be sure both are getting the right amount of food. Feeding separately takes a lot of time and does 't work if they would rather surf then eat the meal all at once.
