One may be too old for this. My son is 17 months and does still like it, but only plays with it occasionally and then for just a couple of minutes. He's been playing with it since he could sit unsupported so it's been a really great long-lasting gift. My I wouldn't buy it for a 1-year-old.

Definitely a push toy. If they have the space, the kid can't have too many (we have just one in our little house, but ds pushes that thing around daily, and has for the past 7 months!).

Another vote for a wagon or a water table. both huge hits with my daughter and several of my friends' children.

+1 I have both given and received these. And I still remember the book I had as a child with my own name in it!

My son just turned one and got two push toys- a radio flyer ($75ish) and the m&d alligator push toy. He loves them! I like the wagon better, but I think because that's what we got him...I would definitely recommend one of these.

I wish! My brother is Big Law and money is not a concern for them. I don't think it would be appreciated. I was thinking about a donation in her name but thought maybe to wait until she's older...also not sure if they'd really appreciate it...

Looking for gift ideas for my niece who will be turning one this month. Price range is ~$50. She has a ton of clothes and my SIL is fairly particular about the type of toys she plays with (think no flashing lights/sounds, no characters). We did books for Christmas or else that's what she'd be getting. I'd like it to be somewhat meaningful/special since she was named after me and I rarely get to see her (they live ten hours away) and its her first birthday. TIA for any suggestions!
